OUR STORY

Five years ago, Walkology started with two dog-obsessed humans, two giant Rottweiler pups, and a very strong opinion on ugly dog gear.

Back then, our lives looked a little different. We had more spare time, fewer responsibilities, and two one-year-old Rottie girls named Petal and Paloma who quickly became the centre of our world. We started taking them to obedience training where durable equipment was mandatory — but while the recommended gear ticked the “strong and practical” box, it definitely didn’t tick the “beautiful” one.

So naturally… we decided to make our own.

Walkology was built from our love of dogs, functional design, and the belief that pet gear shouldn’t have to sacrifice aesthetics for strength. We wanted products that were durable, minimal, reliable, and made from materials that aligned with our values — which is why we chose Biothane, a vegan leather alternative that can handle real life with real dogs.

The name “Walkology” came pretty easily. “Walk” — arguably every dog’s favourite word — paired with “ology,” the suffix for a field of study or science. As someone who has spent most of adulthood studying and working in healthcare, it felt fitting to combine my love of science with my lifelong obsession with dogs.

And yes… I was absolutely the “dog girl” growing up. Dog books, dog magazines, dog stickers — the whole thing. Somehow I flew slightly more under the radar than the horse girls, although these days I deeply respect the commitment required to own what is essentially a very large rideable dog.

Kyle has always been just as dog obsessed. Dogs adore him, which is unsurprising considering he’s a gentle giant who tends to hand out treats a little too generously. He still works full-time, these days he works in a quarry supervisor role after years on the tools as a Diesel Fitter, although I’m fairly certain his dream job is actually stay-at-home dad to the dogs and kids. He’s also the reason Walkology functions at all — he builds, fixes, lifts, problem-solves, and occasionally contributes ideas (even if I’m convinced they were originally mine).

Since those early Walkology days, life has changed a lot.

We hit pause on the business for a few years while life became very full, very quickly. In that time, we welcomed two beautiful kids, moved to the southern end of the Sunshine Coast to be closer to work, and continued building our careers and family life.

I’m still working as a Cardiac Scientist, and I genuinely love what I do. But somewhere between work, motherhood, cleaning the same kitchen for the seventeenth time, and mindlessly scrolling Instagram at night, I realised I missed creating something.

Then life threw us another curveball — Petal needed not one, but TWO ACL surgeries.

If you know large breed dogs, you know how quickly veterinary bills can become overwhelming. But if you also love your dogs the way we do, there was never really another option. They’re family. Always have been.

And honestly, relaunching Walkology came from that exact place.

Partly financial necessity. Partly creative escape. Partly wanting to build something for ourselves again outside of work, laundry piles, and the chaos of parenting. But mostly because we still deeply believe in what Walkology stands for.

We believe dogs deserve gear that’s made to last.
We believe functionality and aesthetics can coexist.
We believe buying better quality means contributing less to landfill.
And we still reject the whole “it’s just a dog” mentality entirely.

Our dogs make our house feel like home (even if they're also really hairy and make so much effing housework). They’ve been there through every version of our lives — before kids, after kids, during career changes, house moves, surgeries, stress, and all the beautiful chaos in between.

Walkology is for people who love their dogs like family. The people whose camera rolls are mostly dogs. The people who say goodbye to them before leaving the house. The people who buy the trendy collar, but also care about durability, sustainability, and thoughtful design.

So here we are again. A little older, a little tireder, definitely busier — but still just as obsessed with dogs as ever.

And we truly can’t wait to see your best mates in Walkology gear and hear about all the adventures you take together.

Love your dogs hard. To them, you are their whole world.

Lots of love,
Dim, Kyle, Petal, Paloma & the tiny humans x
